-- The second forum on “Islamic media and their role in Thailand society” was held on September 24 at Muslims Central Committee in Thailand.
It was addressed by Sheikh-ol-Islam of the country who regarded the media as a powerful weapon in today’s world that is often used for leading public opinion.
Referring to the multi-cultural society of Thailand and the need for use of the media appropriately, he called upon the Islamic media officials to pay more attention to cover realities of the world of Islam and strive for promotion of peace and security.
He stressed holding much more active forums of Muslim media practitioners and academicians could help exchange information and experiences about codes of journalistic ethics in Muslim countries. "Such forum could also play a key role in the formation of an international institute for media training and research for Islamic media."
He also expressed hope that such forums would be a starting point for a better use of the media and clarification of its important duty and the role it can play in conveying the message of Islam which is the Truth, peace and brotherhood.
