The Afghan Air Force killed 18 ISIS loyalists and injured 11 during an airstrike in the country's eastern Nangarhar province, the country's Defense Ministry said in a statement issued on Sunday.
According to the statement, the airstrike was carried out in the area near the province's Kot district.
Security in Afghanistan has drastically deteriorated in recent months as both Taliban insurgents and ISIS, have expanded their activities in the country's east and south.
In May, the Afghanistan National Security Council adopted the strategy to counter ISIS extremists, which grants special powers to the country's security forces, permitting to introduce any measures necessary to weaken ISIS positions in the country.
