Ahlul Bayt News Agency - ABNA - The act of Quran burning by some extremists and naming a day by a so-called pastor as the international Quran burning day are above all considered as treating Jesus Christ with disrespect. Said shia Intellectual and the Imam of Mahfel Zaynab Islamic center in the French town of Keurnou, Mousa Abd-ul-Momen.
“It is regrettable that a group claiming to be monotheist desecrated the Quran. Since the names of Jesus Christ and the Virgin Mary are mentioned in the holy Quran more than the name of Mohammad (PBUH), this action is actually an affront to Christianity,” he stated.
Asked about the duty of Muslim community towards such abominable actions, he said, “According to verses 77 to 80 of Surah Al- Waqia: «That this is indeed a Quran Most Honorable. In Book well-guarded. Which none shall touch but those who are clean. A revelation from the Lord of the Worlds». Quran burning will not stop the spread of Divine words. In fact, this eternal miracle continues to lead humanity to salvation”.
Abd-ul-Mumin stressed that those who plotted the Quran burning plan made a thoughtless decision. “How could Christians get involved in burning the holy book of another monotheistic religion? Indeed, those who offended the holy Quran are far from true Christianity,” he argued.
“I think it is not sensible to resort to violence in order to deal with the problem,” the Muslim thinker opined, adding that self-restraint on the part of Muslim community will prevent enemies from finding excuses to spread Islamophobia.
The Imam of Mahfil Zaynab Islamic center referred to the controversial plan for building a mosque in New York and said, “Today we hear arguments about whether or not to construct a mosque near the site of September 11 attacks. As a Muslim, I believe that Muslims have the right to have places of worship.”
