The official statement of Grand Ayatollah Safi Gulpaygani in condemning the decision of Ale Khalifah to revoke the citizenship of Shaykh Isa Qasim is as follows:
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficient, the Merciful
The revoking of the citizenship of the revolutionary Bahraini scholar, Shaykh Isa Qasim by the governing authorities of that country goes all against civil, human and religious laws , and created a wave of astonishment and regret.
At a time when Muslims and the Islamic Nations are in need of unity in the face of its many enemies, but unfortunately some Islamic governments instead of listening to the legitimate demands of their people; giving them a positive answer and grant their legal requests, in order to please their superiors, partake in all types of oppressions and tyrannies.
I condemn the revoking of the citizenship of Shaykh Isa Qasim and I urge all Islamic scholars and international human rights bodies not to remain quite in the face of this ugly and inhumane action and to act swiftly in resolving this foolish decision that will have grave consequences.
