Millions of Pakistani mourners mark Ashura

Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - At your service O Hussain Ibn-e-Ali. This is the slogan of these mourners on Ashura Day in the port city of Karachi, most of whom spent last night to mourn the martyrdom of Imam Hussein and his companions in the planes of Karbala some 1400 years ago.Despite serious security threats Shia Muslims across Pakistan flocked into the streets in their millions to pledge their allegiance to Imam Hussein who sacrificed his life for the values of justice and equality. On this day Shia Muslims distribute Nazr-e-Hussain, a charity meal and beverages to the poor and participants of the procession.Participants also donate blood to Imamia Blood bank that gives it back to the community at the time of need. After Friday prayers mourners set the Israeli and US flags on fire that they believe are the current oppressors.Imam Hussain was Martyred in an unequal battle against the forces of Umayad Caliph Yazid who were angry with him for refusing to pledge allegiance to Yzid. The Lord of Martyrs as Shia Muslims call him will always be remembered as the symbol of resistance against injustice and tyranny. /129
