The 26th International Conference of Islamic Unity will be held in Tehran on January 27-8 with the participation of 300 eminent Muslim thinkers and scholars from 102 countries.
This was announced by secretary general of the World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought (FPIST) on Sunday.
Ayatollah Mohsen Araki said the theme of the international conference will be “Holy Prophet (PBUH), Symbol of United Islamic Ummah’s Identity”.
He added that 1000 figures from Iran will also take part in the conference.
Ayatollah Araki referred to the Unity Week (which marks the anniversary of the Holy Prophet’s birth according to Shia and Sunni sources), saying that the week reminds everyone of the great Prophet (PBUH) and that it is a unifying remembrance.
He referred to the Holy Prophet’s (PBUH) character as the symbol of the united Islamic Ummah’s identity, adding that unity is an urgent need under the current conditions when the world is seeing the Islamic Awakening and uprisings in regional countries.
Ayatollah Araki said the message of these uprisings is returning to the Islamic identity and returning to the Islamic and Quranic values.
He added that this year’s Unity Week can be effective in directing Islamic uprisings toward reviving the Islamic identity.
Head of the FPIST warned about the enemies’ attacks on the Islamic Ummah’s unity through different means such as desecrating the Quran and the Holy Prophet (PBUH) as well as inciting Fitna (sedition) and discord.
He also talked about celebrations marking the anniversary of the Holy Prophet’s (PBUH) birth and the Unity Week, saying that great celebrations are planned to be held on the auspicious occasion in different cities like Tehran, Cairo, Ankara, Beirut, Damascus, London, Islamabad, Baghdad, etc.
