(AhlulBayt News Agency) - The first stage of the 5th national Quran competition in Qatar will be held in the capital Doha from December 20-27, Ash-Sharq daily reports.

According to Khalid bin Muhammad bin Ghanim Al Thani, head of the competition’s organizing committee, the final stage is slated for January 1-3 and the awarding ceremony would be held on January 13. There will be two separate awarding ceremonies for men and women, the first to take place at Ramada Hotel and the second at the Muzeh Bint Muhammad Quranic Center in Doha.

Titled “Sheikh Ali Ghanim”, Qatar’s national Quran competition is organized by the country’s Awqaf and Islamic Affairs Ministry among students of the Quranic centers affiliated to the ministry.

It will have different categories: memorization, recitation and interpretation of the holy Quran, Mr. Al Thani said, adding that winners will receive cash prizes totaling 2 million Qatari rials.

He noted that encouraging the students to reflect on the verses of the holy Quran, and promoting Quranic values and teachings are among the objectives of the contest.
