Gunmen kill Sunni policeman guarding Shia Muslims in Pakistan's Quetta

Gunmen riding on motorcycles shot dead a Sunni policeman and injured another while they were guarding some vegetable sellers belonging to Shia community in Pakistans southwestern city of Quetta.

KARACHI, Pakistan (AhlulBayt News Agency) - Gunmen riding on motorcycles shot dead a Sunni policeman and injured another while they were guarding some vegetable sellers belonging to Shia community in Pakistans southwestern city of Quetta.

The gunmen opened fired at an armoured police vehicle when it was being driven from Hazar Ganji to Shalkot, police said.

Following the incident, the area was cordoned off and closed for traffic.

No one immediately claimed responsibility for the attack, but Wahhabi-Nasebi extremists have targeted Pakistans Shia minority in past attacks.

Attacks on police personnel and Shia Muslims have become a frequent occurrence in Quetta and other parts of restive Balochistan province.
